In 1972, Bruce Markham arrived in Napa Valley with the dream of starting a winery. Intent on crafting world-class wines for years to come, he purchased the "little jewels" that are still the Markham vineyards today. He was a pioneer in what is now the very heart of Napa, buying premium vineyard land before many understood the tremendous potential the valley offered for producing fine wines. He also purchased a winery. Originally established by Jean Laurent, the Markham winery has a history that dates back to 1879. As one of the founders of Napa winemaking and viticulture, Markham Vineyards takes great pride in its legacy of exceptional winemaking. Situated in the picturesque center of Napa Valley, surrounded by mountains and magnificent vineyards, Markham's winery has the distinction of being the fourth oldest continuously operated winery in Napa County. Today, Markham Vineyards owns 350 acres of vineyards strategically located in the north to Oak Knoll in the south, Markham has the luxury of hand-selecting grapes from several diverse microclimates to achieve its balanced and rich wines. Winemakers Kimberlee Nicholls sums up the benefits offered by this extraordinary palette of vineyards: "The expressions of terroir from each unique location create a gender whole: each vineyard complements and elevates the next. The result is endless blending options to weave together the rich fruit flavors, elegant acid structure, broad texture and velvety tannins we want in our wines."

Tasting Notes
Markham Cabernet Sauvignon

Blackberry jam and cedar aromas are highlighted by intriguing notes of fresh tarragon. The texture of this Cebernet - soft yet gloriously chewy - draws you in. Berry fruit flavors are accented by rich caramel, and the wine finishes with a subtle mineral sense of place. This luxurious Cabernet has a wealth of flavor, and yet has the balance to pair well with food.

Markham Chardonnay

Nutty aromas of toasted hazelnuts and almonds marry with peach, apple and pineapple fruit. Juicy, ripe flavors of red apple and fresh cream give the palate rich texture. The finish is generous, lingering long after with toasted nut and nectar. A deliciously balanced Chardonnay.

Markham Merlot

Aromas of candied violets and cassis are wrapped around creamy vanilla toast. Wonderful flavors of ripe black cherry and a rich, fleshy plum texture remind you why Merlot is such a joy to drink. Round tannins are lush but firm, with a slightly chalky texture that brings out this Merlot's real power.

Markham Sauvignon Blanc

The honeysuckle, white peach and citrus zest in the nose are mimicked in the mouth with crisp, refreshing flavors of fruit. The rich, viscous mouthfeel make this Sauvignon Blanc a great match with a variety of foods, or just a lovely wine to sip while lounging poolside. Chill and enjoy!!
